New minimum wage: I’m committed to paying N30, 000 to workers – Kwara Governor, Ahmed

The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, on Monday, declared his readiness to implement the N30, 000 new minimum wage.

Ahmed made the disclosure while announcing the release of funds for the payment of one-month salary to workers of State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, in the state.

In a tweet via his verified Twitter handle, Ahmed wrote: “In keeping with my earlier pledge, I have approved the release of funds for the payment of one month salary to LG/SUBEB staff.

“I also commit to paying the N30k minimum wage following an MOU with Labour.”

Recall that the National Council of State had approved the sum of N27,000 while the federal government said it would increase it to N30,000 for its workers.

Following the decision of the Council, the House of Representatives had, on January 29, 2018 passed the the Minimum Wage Bill, pegging it at N30, 000 as against the N27,000 proposed by the National Council of State.
