LP chairmen sack Abdulkadir Abdulsalam as National Chairman, backs Omotosho

Rising from a meeting in Abuja where they critically examined developments from the party’s special convention held last October, state chairmen of Labour Party, LP, have insisted on the removal of Abdulkadir Abdulsalam as the party’s national chairman, insisting that Dr. Mike Omotosho was the new national chairman of the party.

This point was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a two-day meeting of Labour Party Forum of State Chairmen held in Abuja, which demanded that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should henceforth recognize and only relate with Omotosho as the duly elected National Chairman of Labour Party.

It expressed displeasure over Abdulsalam’s continuous parade of himself as the LP national chairman, even when the National Working Committee, the National Executive Council and the Special Convention removed him from office, regretting that the illegality has misled people towards assuming that the party is in a kind of crisis, which is not true.

The meeting expressed dismay that INEC, as regulator of party activities, failed to fully comply and impartially implement the overwhelming decision of the convention, being the highest organ of Labour Party with regard to the removal of Abdulsalam.

The meeting-in-session noted that the special convention that removed Abdulsalam from office, was convened in line with the provisions of the Party’s Constitution, Article 13c and in conformity with the requirements and guidelines of INEC, to that extent, there should not have been any reason why Salam’s name is still hoisted on INEC’s website after INEC supervised and monitored the constitutional process that duly removed him.

The communiqué signed by the forum’s chairman, Rev. Comrade Joshua S. Ndirang, and secretary, Comrade Emeka Nkwoala JP, reads in part, “For avoidance of doubts, copies of the Nigerian Police Investigation Report and the Forensic Audit Report carried out on the Party’s Financial Accounts, that indicted the Former National Chairman (Alhaji Salam) and other Party Officials, were made available to the State chairmen for their perusal.

“The Chairmen’s forum re-affirms the outcome of the October, 3rd 2017, Special Convention. We also demand that all relevant Stake holders respect and uphold the decisions of the Party reached at the convention, which the highest decision is making body of any political Party.

“The meeting rejected the clandestine move of a former Governor under the umbrella of the party to hijack the party through the backdoor. We admonish the former Governor, who abandoned the Party that made him when we needed him most to join effort with the new leadership, NLC and other stakeholders to build the party rather than setting it on the part of destruction.

“The meeting frowned at the old system where the Party never future in elections but used to make money in the personal interest of some few leaders. It was unanimously agreed that only people intending to truly contest elections, will be given the Party’s platform for elections. Labour Party is no longer for sale.

“The State Chairmen rejected every plan by the Party’s detractors to drag it into any unholy coalition for selfish interest. Labour Party shall continue to remain a solid political Party with its socialist ideology for the betterment of the Nigerian populace.”

The state chairmen of Labour Party went on to commend the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, under Comrade Dr. Ayuba Wabba, for the timely intervention to restore peace. They pledged their unflinching support and loyalty to the leadership of Omotosho, and further urged him not to relent in his effort to take the Party to a higher height.

It was unanimously agreed at the meeting that a courtesy visit be paid to the INEC and the Party’s National Chairman, to present them with copies of this Communiqué, even as the chairmen resolved to meet once every quarter, with provision for emergency situations in between, as the need may arise.
