{"id":72764,"date":"2018-12-25T07:10:59","date_gmt":"2018-12-25T06:10:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=72764"},"modified":"2018-12-25T07:15:27","modified_gmt":"2018-12-25T06:15:27","slug":"prof-sophie-oluwole-is-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=72764","title":{"rendered":"Prof. Sophie Oluwole is dead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Prof.-Sophie-Oluwole-is-dead.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">The first female doctorate degree holder in philosophy in Nigeria, Professor Sophie Oluwole is dead.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Oluwole known for her pan-African stance passed on at the age of 83.<\/p>\n<p>It was reported that she died after a protracted illness, Channels reports.<\/p>\n<p>Oluwole was the first Nigerian female doctorate degree holder in philosophy and a practitioner of Yoruba philosophy.<\/p>\n<p>Born in 1936 in Igbara-oke, Ondo State, the late Oluwole studied history, geography and philosophy at the University of Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>She produced several books on philosophy, including Ifa and Orunmila which aimed to correct the Western philosophers that Africans have philosophy.<\/p>\n<p>She was often called Mamalawo a nickname which was borne from her becoming the first female PhD holder in the country.
