The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has retracted his earlier comment about speaking with the widow of Lt. Col Ibrahim Sakaba.<\/p>\n

Col. Sakaba was killed by Boko Haram at Metele last month.<\/p>\n

Atiku had earlier via his Twitter handle, claimed to have spoken with the soldier\u2019s widow as a form of consolation.<\/p>\n

However, the grieving woman, Seun, came out to rubish the claim, saying she never spoke with Atiku.<\/p>\n

Atiku now said he spoke with the slain soldier\u2019s sister, Maryam and not the wife.<\/p>\n

Atiku set the record straight and apologised for the \u201cerroneous communication.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement released by his Media office on Monday, Atiku said, \u201dFollowing the death of Lt. Col Ibrahim Sakaba during the Boko Haram insurgents\u2019 attack on 157 Taskforce Battalion in Metele, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar\u2019s staff has made efforts to get the contact of his widow to enable the former Vice President express his condolences over the loss of the fallen hero.<\/p>\n

\u201dOver the weekend, Atiku Abubakar was availed with phone numbers of Mrs. Sakaba and Maryam, younger sister of the late soldier, in the alternative.<\/p>\n

\u201dOn Sunday, the former Vice President tried albeit unsuccessfully to contact Mrs. Sakaba but was able to eventually speak with Maryam, younger sister of the gallant soldier during which he expressed his deepest condolences to the family.<\/p>\n
