At least 20 people have died in Indonesia after a tsunami which may have been triggered by volcanic activity.<\/p>\n

About 165 people have been injured after the huge wave crashed into beaches around the Sunda Strait at about 9.30pm local time (2.30pm GMT) on Saturday, officials said.<\/p>\n

Indonesia’s disaster management agency said the tsunami was possibly caused by underwater landslides after the Krakatoa volcano erupted.<\/p>\n

Dozens of buildings and vehicles have been severely damaged, while a highway connecting Serang and Pandeglang has been cut off.<\/p>\n

Oystein Lund Andersen said he and his family were taking photos of a volcano when a huge wave came towards them.<\/p>\n

“I had to run, as the wave passed the beach and landed 15-20m (meters) inland,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Next wave entered the hotel area where i was staying and downed cars on the road behind it.<\/p>\n

“Managed to evacuate with my family to higher ground trough forest paths and villages, where we are taken care of (by) the locals. Were unharmed, thankfully.”<\/p>\n

Authorities say the tsunami may have been triggered by an abnormal tidal surge due to a new moon and an underwater landslide following the eruption of Anak Krakatoa.<\/p>\n
