With the current security challenges in Ondo State, particularly the spate of kidnappings in the northern senatorial district area of the state, the Academic Staff Union Universities, ASUU, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko Branch, has called on the Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as well as security agencies to take urgent measures towards putting to an end incessant kidnappings along the Akure-Owo-Akoko highways.<\/p>\n

In a statement by the lecturers, they stated that the activities of the gunmen have created psychological trauma not only among members of staff of the state university but also among the students\u2019 population who now live in constant fear in fear anytime the need to transit through the highways arises.<\/p>\n

The statement signed by the AAUA Branch Chairman of ASUU, Dr Sola Fayose, described the recent happenings on the road as worrisome and called on the police, the DSS and other security agencies to rise up to their constitutional duty of protecting the lives and property of the citizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Union is constrained to draw your attention to the worrisome state of the security of lives and property on the Akure-Owo-Akungba highway, which is our regular route to work. The incessant nature and unmitigated brazenness with which armed robbers and kidnappers operate on this road are reflectively anarchistic and perilous.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis untoward developments have negatively affected smooth movements on the road, particularly to our work place to ply our trade. To say the least, our members, staff and students of AAUA and other commuters now live in perpetual fear of any eventuality while plying the road,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

Dr Fayose further stated that, \u201cWe, therefore, call on Mr. Governor to use his good office as the Chief Security Officer of the state to take urgent and drastic measures to address this ugly situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe union also called on the police, the DSS and other security agencies to rise up to their constitutional duty of protecting the lives and property of the citizens,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

Recall that Ondo State has in recents times been engulfed in incessant kidnap cases with various groups and stakeholders within the state voicing out against the menace.\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
