Saidu Garba, flagged-off the exercise on Wednesday at the Nigerian Ports Authority Jetty in Warri, Delta.<\/p>\n<p>Garba said that the three-day exercise would take place in Bayesla and Delta.<\/p>\n<p>Ex Toru-Gbown means water protection in Ijaw Language, NAN reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far, our operations have recorded huge success in reducing crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other maritime crimes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEx Toru-Gbown is a riverine exercise scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year, the command, in a similar fashion, hosted \u2018operation Octopus Grip\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur presence here today is an indication of the Nigerian Navy\u2019s commitment to safeguarding the nation\u2019s maritime environment, which is filled with illegalities,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>The FOC said that the exercise was aimed at assessing the combat readiness of the command and the capability of specific bases\/units in conducting riverine and checkpoint operations, among others goals,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the navy was providing an environment that would enable sustenance of economic activities, including shipping and oil and gas production.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Naval Command (CNC) has begun a riverine and sea exercise tagged \u201cEx Toru-Gbown\u201d.
