{"id":64301,"date":"2018-11-24T23:34:59","date_gmt":"2018-11-24T22:34:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=64301"},"modified":"2018-11-24T23:43:46","modified_gmt":"2018-11-24T22:43:46","slug":"police-sergeant-shoots-20-year-old-undergraduate-in-bayelsa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=64301","title":{"rendered":"Police Sergeant Shoots 20-Year-Old Undergraduate In Bayelsa"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span class=\"ds-1col file file-image file-image-jpeg view-mode-embedded centered clearfix block-story-object block-story-object-resource block-story-object-resource-image\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"block-story-object-asset\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-embedded\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Police-Sergeant-Shoots-20-Year-Old-Undergraduate-In-Bayelsa.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"container container-pod container-pod-short\"><span class=\"adunit-parent hide block-module block-module-ad block-module-ad-300x250\"><span class=\"block-module-image-wrapper\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Nikade Tariela, 300 level Engineering student of Niger Delta University, has been shot dead by a policeman at Ebisam road, Akenfa in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.<\/p>\n<p>The murder of the student led to a protest by residents of Akenfa area on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The policeman, identified as Sergeant Timadi Emmanuel, is attached to the Akenfa Police Division patrol team.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that the police raids, which have been ongoing in most parts of the state, caused confusion following the killing of the student on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Bayelsa State Police Command has, however, condoled with the family, and restated the commitment to ensuring that justice is done. <\/p>\n<p>DSP Asinim Butswat, spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, expressed regret over the incident involving a Police officer and a resident of Tenacious Road, Edepie, Yenagoa. <\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;On 23 November, 2018, at about 1930 hours, Sergeant Timadi Emmanuel, attached to a patrol team of Akenfa Division, while on patrol at Tenacious Road, Edepie, under questionable circumstances shot one Tariela Nikade &#8216;m&#8217; 20 years. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Sergeant has been disarmed, arrested and is undergoing orderly room trial.
