{"id":61750,"date":"2018-11-15T21:12:19","date_gmt":"2018-11-15T20:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=61750"},"modified":"2018-11-15T21:13:47","modified_gmt":"2018-11-15T20:13:47","slug":"epl-premier-league-to-start-using-var-next-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=61750","title":{"rendered":"EPL: Premier League to start using VAR next season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/VAR.jpeg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">The English Premier League, EPL, have agreed in principle to start using the Video Assistant Referees, VAR, in the 2019\/20 season.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was made after a vote from all the twenty clubs in the English topflight league on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>A statement on the Premier League\u2019s official website read: \u201cPremier League clubs have agreed in principle to introduce Video Assistant Referees (VAR) to the competition in the 2019\/20 season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a Shareholders\u2019 Meeting today, clubs were provided with an update on the non-live VAR trials being undertaken by the League and Professional Game Match Officials (PGMOL) this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKey learnings from VAR\u2019s use in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, and other leagues across the world, were discussed in detail<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Premier League\u2019s non-live testing programme will remain in place for the rest of this season, with a continued emphasis on those Saturday afternoons which have several matches being played concurrently, and developing a clear protocol for communicating VAR decisions to fans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe League will now formally make a request to the International Football Association Board and FIFA to use VAR next season.\u201d\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The English Premier League, EPL, have agreed in principle to start using the Video Assistant Referees, VAR, in the 2019\/20 season.
