{"id":61230,"date":"2018-11-14T12:25:31","date_gmt":"2018-11-14T11:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=61230"},"modified":"2018-11-14T12:25:57","modified_gmt":"2018-11-14T11:25:57","slug":"ekiti-state-govt-orders-school-heads-to-refund-unauthorised-levies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=61230","title":{"rendered":"Ekiti State Govt orders school heads to refund unauthorised levies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Ekiti-State-Govt-orders-school-heads-to-refund-unauthorised-levies.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">The Ekiti State Government has ordered heads of public primary and secondary schools who had collected unauthorized levies at the<br \/>\nbeginning of the 2018\/2019 academic year to return same to their pupils and students.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, who ordered a full compliance by head teachers and principals of public primary and secondary schools at his office on Tuesday stressed that the Education Development Levy and other unauthorized fees remain abolished in the state.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Odunayo Ogunmola, the Deputy Governor further directed that evidence of such refunds must be brought to the Ministry of Education for verification.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Governor stressed that where such fees have been collected and remitted into government coffers, such schools should bring the<br \/>\nevidence of such remittance to the Ministry of Education.<\/p>\n<p>Egbeyemi said the action was consequent upon the Executive Order 001 signed by the Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi on 24th October, 2018<br \/>\nabolishing payment of Education Development Levy and other unauthorized fees in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The statement reads: \u201cConsequent upon the Executive Order 001 signed<br \/>\nby the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Deputy<br \/>\nGovernor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, has ordered a full compliance by the heads of all public primary and secondary schools in Ekiti State as<br \/>\nfollows:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat no pupil of primary and student of secondary schools in Ekiti State should pay any unauthorized fees or levies, especially the Education Development Levy any longer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat in case where such fees, especially the Education Development Levy, have been collected from pupils and students from this first term (2018\/2019 academic session), such fees collected must be returned or refunded to the pupils and students and evidence of such<br \/>\nrefunds must be brought to the Ministry of Education for verification.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat where such fees have been collected and remitted into government coffers, such schools should bring evidence of such remittance to the<br \/>\nMinistry of Education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe above does not preclude voluntary donations, contributions from philanthropic bodies, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and School Based Management Committees (SBMCs) made towards the improvement of education standards in schools across the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHeads of public primary and secondary schools in Ekiti State are therefore warned to adhere strictly to the content of this directive from the state government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The directive has been conveyed in a letter to stakeholders in the education sector including the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry<br \/>\nof Education, Teaching Service Commission (TSC) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB),<\/p>\n<p>Others are all Area Education Officers, state chapters of All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) and<\/p>\n<p>Association of Primary School Heads of Nigeria (AOPSHON).<\/p>\n<p>The rest are Principals of Government Colleges\/Science Colleges, Principals, Gifted Academy International, Afao\/Special Schools, Principals of all Public Secondary Schools and Ekiti State Chapter of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS).\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ekiti State Government has ordered heads of public primary and secondary schools who had collected unauthorized levies at the beginning of the 2018\/2019 academic year to return same to their pupils and students.
