{"id":50910,"date":"2018-10-10T15:43:17","date_gmt":"2018-10-10T14:43:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=50910"},"modified":"2018-10-10T15:43:31","modified_gmt":"2018-10-10T14:43:31","slug":"lagos-type-of-godfatherism-cant-work-in-benue-ortom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=50910","title":{"rendered":"Lagos Type Of Godfatherism Can\u2019t Work In Benue \u2013 Ortom"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span class=\"ds-1col file file-image file-image-jpeg view-mode-embedded centered clearfix block-story-object block-story-object-resource block-story-object-resource-image\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"block-story-object-asset\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-embedded\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Lagos-Type-Of-Godfatherism-Can\u2019t-Work-In-Benue-\u2013-Ortom.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"container container-pod container-pod-short\"><span class=\"adunit-parent hide block-module block-module-ad block-module-ad-300x250\"><span class=\"block-module-image-wrapper\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, on Tuesday, told Senator George Akume that the type of godfatherism being practised in Lagos State would not work in Benue.<\/p>\n<p>Ortom said Akume was attacking him not because he had not performed but because he refused to submit to the control of Akume, who was Benue State Governor between 1999 and 2007.<\/p>\n<p>He also accused Akume of diverting N2bn from the state coffers while serving as governor to prosecute his Senate ambition in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Ortom, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and ICT, Tahav Agerzua, was reacting to a statement credited to Akume, in which he reportedly described Ortom\u2019s performance in office as abysmal.<\/p>\n<p>Akume had in an interview with journalists at his residence in Makurdi alleged that Benue had realised over N500bn under Ortom, but there was nothing to show for it.<\/p>\n<p>The former governor  regretted that Ortom could not pay workers\u2019 salaries despite the income.<\/p>\n<p>Akume, who said he regretted bringing Ortom to power in 2015, apologised to  Benue people for his error of judgment.<\/p>\n<p>But reacting, Ortom\u2019s aide said, \u201cAkume\u2019s criticism of Governor Samuel Ortom has nothing to do with performance but everything to do with Ortom\u2019s refusal to be subservient and be subjugated to his (Akume\u2019s) whims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has become a trend for Nigerian godfathers to suffocate their godchildren for failing to be totally slavish to them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is unfortunate of godfathers who see themselves as gods as it happened in Lagos State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately for Akume, he failed to achieve the same selfish dreams for Ortom in like manner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ortom\u2019s aide said Benue people ought to turn against Akume, having failed to acknowledge the privileges they gave him.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, on Tuesday, told Senator George Akume that the type of godfatherism being practised in Lagos State would not work in Benue.
