Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said Nigeria needs a President with a sound knowledge of the economy.<\/p>\n

Obasanjo said Nigeria will make a headway when such a person assumes power.<\/p>\n

He said this while speaking at this year\u2019s edition of Foursquare Gospel Church annual public lecture at the church\u2019s national headquarters in Yaba, Lagos on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The former President stated that this was what a former German Chancellor, the late Helmut Schmidt, who was one of his international friends, told him during a discussion about African countries.<\/p>\n

Obasanjo said there was no way that a President with a poor knowledge of the economy could meet the needs of the citizens.<\/p>\n

He insisted that for Nigeria to get it right, the country must strike a balance among economy, faith and politics.<\/p>\n

Obasanjo said, \u201cThere is no doubt at all that if we have to get it right the three (economy, faith and politics) must go together.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of my international friends, the late Helmut Schmidt,who was a former Chancellor of Germany \u2013 he died at the age of 96 about three years ago, I was at the burial \u2013 and he said if we in Africa have to make it, all our political leaders must have good grounding in economy.\u201d\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
