This declaration was made by Dr Oluwatoyin Akinlade, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, in a statement released on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government, extending its congratulations to Nigerians on this occasion, acknowledged the country&#8217;s democratic journey has been marked by both challenging and smooth times, akin to experiences in many other nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Yet, the ship of State, its institutions, and most importantly, the Nigerian people, have continued to uphold the principles of democratic governance,&#8221; the statement affirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;On this memorable occasion, Nigerians and friends of Nigeria are thus invited to appreciate the strides that have been made, celebrate the milestones achieved, and anticipate a brighter future for our democracy.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Permanent Secretary ended the statement with well wishes, saying, &#8220;The Permanent Secretary wishes all Nigerians a Happy Democracy Day celebration.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It should be noted that Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari had established June 12 as Democracy Day during his second and final term in office.
