{"id":432616,"date":"2022-01-22T18:50:39","date_gmt":"2022-01-22T17:50:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=432616"},"modified":"2022-01-23T11:19:28","modified_gmt":"2022-01-23T10:19:28","slug":"2023-obasanjo-turns-down-pdps-request","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=432616","title":{"rendered":"2023: Obasanjo turns down PDP\u2019s request"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has declared that he would never return to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying he has retired from partisan politics.<\/p>\n<p>The ex-president, who renounced his membership of the party in 2015, stated this when he received the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu; and other stakeholders who paid him a visit on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.<\/p>\n<p>According to sources, the visit was targeted at returning the former president to the opposition party ahead of the 2023 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>But, Obasanjo, while addressing the stakeholders, said he had vowed to remain as a statesman. He, however, said PDP would always be part of his life.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cI\u2019m no longer in partisan politics and there is nothing that can bring back. Anybody who wants my advice, I will always be there in the best interest of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever I do in my own life\u2026because I became president on the platform of PDP, PDP will continue to be part of my life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the day I tore my PDP card, that was the day I ceased to be a member of PDP. That day I vowed not to be a member of any political party.
