{"id":422625,"date":"2021-12-18T22:17:59","date_gmt":"2021-12-18T21:17:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=422625"},"modified":"2021-12-18T22:28:37","modified_gmt":"2021-12-18T21:28:37","slug":"nasarawa-government-bans-sale-use-of-charcoal-threatens-to-prosecute-defaulters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=422625","title":{"rendered":"Nasarawa Government Bans Sale, Use Of Charcoal, Threatens To Prosecute Defaulters"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The Nasarawa State Government has banned the use and sale of charcoal in the state.<br \/>\n<span class=\"container container-pod container-pod-short\"><span class=\"adunit-parent hide block-module block-module-ad block-module-ad-300x250\"><span class=\"block-module-image-wrapper\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Aliyu Agwai, who announced this while addressing newsmen on Saturday in Lafia, said the move was to protect the environment.<br \/>\n<span class=\"ds-1col file file-image file-image-jpeg view-mode-embedded centered clearfix block-story-object block-story-object-resource block-story-object-resource-image\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"block-story-object-asset\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-embedded\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/Nasarawa-Government-Bans-Sale-Use-Of-Charcoal-Threatens-To-Prosecute.jpeg\" alt=\"\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He warned those selling and using charcoal to desist from doing so to avoid prosecution.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the process of producing charcoal was harmful to the environment as it destroys the climate and increases global warming.<\/p>\n<p>Agwai said, \u201cCutting trees can result in the loss of habitat for animal species, which can harm the ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlmost all the land animals and plants live in forests and many cannot survive the deforestation that destroys their homes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some Nigerians have reverted to using firewood to cook as a result of the increase in the price of cooking gas.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nasarawa State Government has banned the use and sale of charcoal in the state.
