{"id":421978,"date":"2021-12-15T18:58:23","date_gmt":"2021-12-15T17:58:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=421978"},"modified":"2021-12-15T19:22:41","modified_gmt":"2021-12-15T18:22:41","slug":"court-jails-nigerian-army-officers-wife-for-brutalising-11-year-old-girl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=421978","title":{"rendered":"Court Jails Nigerian Army Officer&#8217;s Wife For Brutalising 11-year-old Girl"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>A Chief Magistrate Court I, in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, has sentenced the wife of a Nigerian Army officer to six months imprisonment for burning an 11-year old girl with hot pot.<br \/>\n<span class=\"container container-pod container-pod-short\"><span class=\"adunit-parent hide block-module block-module-ad block-module-ad-300x250\"><span class=\"block-module-image-wrapper\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The convict, Sara Freeman David, a resident of Army Barracks Yola, bagged the six months jail term on Tuesday for causing injuries on an 11-year old, Esther Emoita, who was in her custody.<br \/>\n<span class=\"ds-1col file file-image file-image-jpeg view-mode-embedded centered clearfix block-story-object block-story-object-resource block-story-object-resource-image\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"block-story-object-asset\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-embedded\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Kenyan-Woman-Pleads-Guilty-To-Swindling-4m-From-Lonely-Men.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>David, an expectant mother, would spend the Christmas season behind bars for what rights activists described as \u201cviolence against a child\u201d and causing grievous injuries, contrary to Sections 209 and 218 of the penal code law.<\/p>\n<p>Her arraignment followed a complaint of child abuse lodged at the Karewa police station on October 27, 2021, by the National Human Right Commission (NHRC).<\/p>\n<p>The NHRC had alleged that &#8220;the wife of a military officer used hot iron pot on Esther Emoita, as a result of which she sustained injuries. The woman had been maltreating the child who was staying with her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David was subsequently arrested and charged to court on November 4, 2021, for the alleged offence, where she pleaded guilty.<\/p>\n<p>In view of her guilty plea, the court adjourned the matter to December 14, 2021, for corroboration and summary trial as earlier prayed by the prosecutor, Seargent Gallion Nimrod.<\/p>\n<p>At the resumed sitting on Tuesday, the woman maintained her guilty plea.
