{"id":416294,"date":"2021-11-19T23:29:35","date_gmt":"2021-11-19T22:29:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=416294"},"modified":"2021-11-19T23:54:57","modified_gmt":"2021-11-19T22:54:57","slug":"2022-world-cup-fifa-changes-rule-for-two-play-off-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=416294","title":{"rendered":"2022 World Cup: FIFA changes rule for two play-off games"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">FIFA has changed the 2022 World Cup qualifying format for the intercontinental playoffs to single-leg games at a neutral venue.<\/p>\n<p>The winners of the matches will take the last two spots at next year\u2019s tournament in Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA, in a statement on Friday, cited \u201cunprecedented disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic\u201d when scheduling the games for June.<\/p>\n<p>The world football governing body has, however, not confirmed a host for the two games, which will be played on June 13 and 14.<\/p>\n<p>The playoffs will involve teams from AFC (Asia), CONMEBOL (South America), OFC (Oceania) and CONCACAF (North American and Caribbean region).<\/p>\n<p>FIFA will make the World Cup tournament draw on April 1 in Doha. Only 30 of the 32 qualifiers will be known at the time, with the intercontinental playoffs still to come.<\/p>\n<p>The draw for the intercontinental playoffs will be on November 26.
