{"id":392992,"date":"2021-09-11T19:48:55","date_gmt":"2021-09-11T18:48:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=392992"},"modified":"2021-09-11T19:51:54","modified_gmt":"2021-09-11T18:51:54","slug":"group-condemns-attack-on-children-education-in-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=392992","title":{"rendered":"Group condemns attack on children, education in Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Education in Emergency Working Group (EiEWG) and other state education actors have expressed concern over attacks on schools, students and teachers in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The group registered its concern yesterday in Damaturu, in a statement signed by Mr Cleobas James, the EiEWG Yobe State Co-focal Person, to commemorate the \u2018International Day to Protect Education from Attack\u2019 2021.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, the protracted conflict in the North-East had devastating impacts on education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom 2009 until December 2018, 611 teachers were killed and 910 schools damaged or destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than 1,500 schools were forced to close and some 4.2 million children in the region are at risk of missing out on education<\/p>\n<p>Insurgency, kidnapping, others responsible for rising number of out of school children \u2013 Adamu<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHundreds of girls have been abducted, some from their own schools, which are meant to be safe zones\u201d, it said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>It added that outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic had exacerbated the already education crisis in the North-East, with the highest Out-of-School Children and the lowest enrollment rate.<\/p>\n<p>They emphasized that schools must remain safe places, free of conflict and violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur collective future, as well as the achievements of all development goals depend on education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSafeguarding the right to education for all, contributes to the achievement of sustainable development and nurtures the international community\u2019s decades long-gains towards peace, economic prosperity, and social inclusion worldwide,\u201d they added.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Education in Emergency Working Group (EiEWG) and other state education actors have expressed concern over attacks on schools, students and teachers in Nigeria.
