{"id":390727,"date":"2021-09-04T11:51:20","date_gmt":"2021-09-04T10:51:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=390727"},"modified":"2021-09-04T12:09:08","modified_gmt":"2021-09-04T11:09:08","slug":"zamfara-fg-shuts-down-telecom-services-as-security-forces-begin-operation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=390727","title":{"rendered":"Zamfara: FG shuts down telecom services as security forces begin operation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">The Federal Government has shut down telecommunication services in Zamfara as joint forces commence a major general operation.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) directed the providers to promptly comply.<\/p>\n<p>Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman wrote a memo titled \u201cRe: Shutdown of All Telecom Sites in Zamfara State\u201d to the Chief Executive Officers of the firms.<\/p>\n<p>The EVC said the decision would allow relevant security agencies to carry out required activities to curtail the security challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pervading security situation in Zamfara State has necessitated an immediate shut down of all telecom services in the state from today, September 3, 2021,\u201d the letter read.<\/p>\n<p>All operators are to shut down all sites in Zamfara and any site(s) in neighbouring states that could provide communication service to the state.<\/p>\n<p>Danbatta added that the order is for two (2) weeks (September 03-17, 2021) in the first instance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour urgent action in this regard is required\u201d, the NCC chief told the companies.<\/p>\n<p>Zamfara is a hotbed of banditry which got out of control in recent years. Criminals kidnap and murder at will, with hundreds of millions paid as ransom.<\/p>\n<p>They usually move about in large numbers with motorcycles, targeting communities, students, farmers, businessmen, government officials and relatives.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government had effected a \u2018no fly zone\u2019 as part of measures to stop illegal arms and gold trade.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government has shut down telecommunication services in Zamfara as joint forces commence a major general operation.
