{"id":371986,"date":"2021-07-08T23:00:36","date_gmt":"2021-07-08T22:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=371986"},"modified":"2021-07-08T23:10:07","modified_gmt":"2021-07-08T22:10:07","slug":"body-of-5-year-old-recovered-as-building-collapses-in-lagos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=371986","title":{"rendered":"Body of 5-year-old recovered as building collapses in Lagos"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Thursday said it recovered one dead body from a building that collapsed in Lagos Island.<\/p>\n<p>The LASEMA Director-General, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirming the incident, said the five-year-old casualty died as a result of a beam that collapsed on him.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the agency received a distress call at about 10:55 a.m. of a collapsed building at No. 19, Church Str. in Lagos Island.<\/p>\n<p>Again, tanker catches fire on Otedola bridge [Video]<\/p>\n<p>Oke-Osanyintolu noted that LASEMA\u2019s swift response to the distress call helped in saving the lives of the occupants of the building except one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe single, yet-to-be identified fatality was due to a room beam that partially collapsed on him when the incident occurred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurther investigation revealed that the building had been slated for a non integrity test because of visible cracks on the beam and columns of the building.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the tenants had been asked to evacuate and the building cordoned off for the safety of residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, an adolescent lost his life to the incident,\u201d he said<\/p>\n<p>He said that LASEMA Response Team, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA) and the Lagos State Safety Commission were all at the scene to conduct proper assessment of the affected building.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Thursday said it recovered one dead body from a building that collapsed in Lagos Island.
