{"id":365254,"date":"2021-06-18T20:49:05","date_gmt":"2021-06-18T19:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=365254"},"modified":"2021-06-18T20:51:48","modified_gmt":"2021-06-18T19:51:48","slug":"retired-nigerian-military-officers-join-battle-against-bandits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=365254","title":{"rendered":"Retired Nigerian military officers join battle against bandits"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Retired Nigerian military officers have been providing discreet intelligence to troops fighting bandits in the North-West.<br \/>\nThe region is under siege by bandits who have kidnapped hundreds of students, teachers and other civilians in recent years.<br \/>\nThe attacks surged since 2020, with news of the audacious invasion of schools and communities making headlines every week.<br \/>\nBuhari orders Army, Police to treat bandits in language they understand<br \/>\nSecurity agencies say they are on their trail but most of the assailants are on the loose, continuing their atrocities.<br \/>\nLately, some former military personnel has been providing information on bandits to law enforcement arms.<br \/>\nThe retired officers give information about the activities, hideouts and movements of the criminals in Kebbi, Niger and others.<br \/>\n\u201cThis has fostered inter-agency cooperation and aided the planning of operations against bandits as most of \u2018Yan Sakai\u2019 volunteers are retired soldiers and security personnel.<br \/>\n\u201cThe generals\u2019 efforts have disorganized the bandits and their evil missions. They may now find it difficult to be moving in a battalion to attack communities\u201d, an operative told PRNigeria.<br \/>\nOn Friday, the Police in Kebbi said they are yet to know the actual number of students kidnapped from the Federal Government College (FGC), Birnin Yauri.<br \/>\nThe school, located in Ngaski Local Government Area, was hit on Thursday.<br \/>\nPolice spokesman, Nafi\u2019u Abubakar refuted reports that bandits took more than 50 students.<br \/>\n\u201cThe command wishes to make it clear that a yet-to-be ascertained the number of students are still missing as rescue operation is still ongoing.\u201d<br \/>\nAbubakar stressed that the claims that a police vehicle was driven by the assailants was false.<br \/>\nHe said a white Hilux with registration no.
