{"id":364968,"date":"2021-06-17T23:19:07","date_gmt":"2021-06-17T22:19:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=364968"},"modified":"2021-06-17T23:31:32","modified_gmt":"2021-06-17T22:31:32","slug":"group-protests-activities-of-cultists-in-awka","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=364968","title":{"rendered":"Group protests activities of cultists in Awka"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[a<\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">A coalition of youth organisation under the auspices of Concerned Anambra Youths, on Thursday, protested the activities of members of secret cults in Awka, the Anambra State capital.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST observed that no fewer than 60 youths have lost their lives to cult activities, occassioned by rivalry among groups, since January this year.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition, consisting youths, moved round Awka streets on Thursday in a campaign meant to strengthen the fight against cultism, killings and other social vices.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters, who wielded placards during the protest march, lamented the increasing activities of cult groups among youths, saying it is posing threats to security in the society, especially in Awka.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, a leader of tricycle riders, Prince, who operated at Unizik junction; a popular location in the state capital was gunned down by persons suspected to be members of rival cult group.<\/p>\n<p>Placards carried by the protesting youths had several inscriptions, including: \u2018Stop Cultism and Criminality\u2019, \u2018Stop the Killings and Violence\u2019, \u2018Shun Cult Activities\u2019, \u2018We Want Peace and Security\u2019, \u2018Secure and Protect the Leaders of Tomorrow\u2019, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Coordinator of the group, Mr Collins Egbuna, in an interview with journalists said: \u201cCultism is responsible for crime and violence which has complicated the already flawed security situation in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigerians must join in the awareness creation, sensitisation, advocacy, reorientation and mentoring processes to save children\/youths from the claws of cultism and other vices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He lamented that cult groups have made the state unsafe, as they attack and kill innocent citizens, destroying property, abs engaging in armed robbery, drug abuse and kidnapping.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cIf these menace is not tackled properly, it will continue to rise.
