{"id":363473,"date":"2021-06-13T08:27:46","date_gmt":"2021-06-13T07:27:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=363473"},"modified":"2021-06-13T08:28:14","modified_gmt":"2021-06-13T07:28:14","slug":"social-media-threatening-nigerias-democracy-lalong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=363473","title":{"rendered":"Social media threatening Nigeria\u2019s democracy &#8211; Lalong"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has decried the use of social media to threaten Nigeria\u2019s democracy.<br \/>\nThe Governor at a dinner to commemorate Nigeria\u2019s Democracy Day on Saturday at the Government House, Jos, said some Nigerians were using the social media to propagate their personal interests at the detriment of upholding the democratic values of Nigeria.<br \/>\n\u201cIt is expedient for me to draw attention to the worrying situation where a section of the conventional media and to a large extend the social media are becoming a threat to Nigeria\u2019s democracy.<br \/>\n\u201cPeople who want to pursue their personal interests are using some sections of the media irresponsibly<br \/>\n\u201cThey go about propagating falsehood, fake news, incitement and refusing to abide by professional code of ethics.<br \/>\n\u201cSometimes, when you follow what some people put in the social media, you wonder whether they believe in Nigeria,\u201d Lalong said.<br \/>\nThe Governor admonished Nigerians to be responsible, careful and guard the country\u2019s democracy jealously.<br \/>\nHe noted that the country would not collapse or disintegrate contrary to the negative narratives infiltrating the polity.<br \/>\nThe governor urged Nigerians not to dwell on our ethnic, religious, political and ideological differences but embrace our diversity which is Nigeria\u2019s greatest strength.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen we stand together and promote justice, equity, fairness and tolerance to one another, there will be no limit to the greatness of Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole,\u201d Lalong added.<br \/>\n<!--<strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>--><br \/>\n<strong><em>(DailyPost)<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has decried the use of social media to threaten Nigeria\u2019s democracy.
