{"id":362907,"date":"2021-06-11T15:31:29","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T14:31:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=362907"},"modified":"2021-06-11T15:51:03","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T14:51:03","slug":"tinubu-presidency-clarifies-comment-made-by-buhari-on-zoning-of-2023-presidency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=362907","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu: Presidency Clarifies Comment Made By Buhari On Zoning Of 2023 Presidency"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The Presidency has dismissed reports that President Muhammadu Buhari was referring to the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, when he made reference to Lagos in his interview on Arise TV on Thursday.<br \/>\n<span class=\"container container-pod container-pod-short\"><span class=\"adunit-parent hide block-module block-module-ad block-module-ad-300x250\"><span class=\"block-module-image-wrapper\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, said the President\u2019s comment on the future of APC during the interview had nothing to do with Tinubu.<br \/>\n<span class=\"ds-1col file file-image file-image-jpeg view-mode-embedded centered clearfix block-story-object block-story-object-resource block-story-object-resource-image\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"block-story-object-asset\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-embedded\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/storage\/2021\/06\/Tinubu-Presidency-Clarifies-Comment-Made-By-Buhari-On-Zoning-Of.jpeg\" alt=\"\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>During the interview, the President said: \u201cThe hope of this administration is to see APC last beyond it. Therefore, we should allow the party to decide. You cannot sit there in Lagos, for instance, and decide on the fate of APC on zoning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though he has not openly declared to run for President in 2023, it is an open secret that Tinubu is positioning himself to succeed Buhari, and counting on zoning to favour him, a southerner since Buhari, a northerner would have spent 8 years in office by 2023.<\/p>\n<p>But, Shehu, in a statement, said: \u201cThe Presidency wishes to distance President Buhari from a malicious campaign aiming to drive a wedge between him and a staunch ally, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is nothing short of a mischievous attempt to drag the President into controversies. Our citizens and especially the members of the APC should not fall for this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ruling party, the APC, unlike others before it is a popular political party owned by its entire membership, hence Mr President was making the point during the 45-minutes interview that neither he nor anyone in the leadership could impose their wishes on the party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a basic consensus that binds the entire party leadership.
