{"id":336971,"date":"2021-04-08T09:07:55","date_gmt":"2021-04-08T08:07:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=336971"},"modified":"2021-04-08T09:09:07","modified_gmt":"2021-04-08T08:09:07","slug":"50-arms-bearing-herdsmen-arrested-in-3-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=336971","title":{"rendered":"50 arms-bearing herdsmen arrested in 3 states"},"content":{"rendered":"<div itemprop=\"description\" wp_automatic_readability=\"83.822468793343\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_637213\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-637213\" style=\"width:412px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-637213 jetpack-lazy-image\" alt=\"Delta herdsmen killings: Lack of funds stalls autopsy of 6 exhumed corpses\" width=\"412\" height=\"253\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.vanguardngr.com\/inc\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Fulani-gun.gif?resize=412%2C253&amp;is-pending-load=1#038;ssl=1\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vanguardngr.com\/data:image\/gif;base64,https:\/\/www.vanguardngr.com\/R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" animated-media=\"animated-media\" data-temp-aztec-id=\"d799e263-7817-4933-a20b-eca4c83c7f74\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-637213\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong><em>File: Herdsmen (Note, this photo is used to illustrate the story)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have arrested 50 arms-bearing herdsmen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe arrested 50 illegally armed herdsmen and realised that some of them are into cattle rustling and kidnapping,\u2019\u2019 Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Audi, said on Wednesday in Abuja<\/p>\n<p>He made the declaration while presenting licences to private guard operators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe armed herdsmen were arrested in Ekiti, Borno and Cross River states and in some other parts of the country,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Audi added that the arrest of the illegally-armed herdsmen shortly after his assumption of office was an indication of his determination to reposition the corps for optimal delivery on its core mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is part of our mandate to settle disputes between herdsmen and farmers and to also give some security protection to our agro-allied investments,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Audi stressed the need for synergy between security agencies, noting that the nation\u2019s security challenges could only be addressed substantially through intelligence sharing.<\/p>\n<p>He charged the private guard operators to ensure valuable contributions to on-going efforts at checking rising insecurity.<\/p>\n<p>Lamenting the security challenges, which, he said were asymmetric in nature, he assured that all would be well once relevant stakeholders adopted unity of purpose as their main objective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe nation is bedevilled with a very serious insecurity crisis, and that is the asymmetric warfare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you want to deal decisively with this, you must synergise with all stakeholders in terms of credible intelligence,\u2019\u2019 he stressed.<\/p>\n<p>He read the Riot Act to the private guard operators and warned that their licences would be withdrawn if they engaged in unethical practice.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the unethical practices, he said, were the adoption of ranks or other accoutrement used by the military or other regular security agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Audi enjoined the operators to prioritise the welfare of their guards for optimal results.
