More details have emerged in the fraud case against Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abbas, who is popularly known as Hushpuppi.
\nLast July, Hushpuppi was charged by the US Attorney\u2019s Office in Los Angeles with conspiring to launder hundreds of millions of dollars from \u2018\u2019business email compromise\u201d\u2019 (BEC) frauds and other scams.
\nHowever, on Wednesday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) claimed he worked with North Korean hackers to launder funds stolen from a Maltese bank.
\nIn a statement released by the DoJ, it was claimed that Hushpuppi took part in a \u201cNorth Korean-perpetrated cyber-enabled heist from a Maltese bank in February 2019.\u201d
\nIn a July statement, the DoJ referred to the attack as \u201ca $14.7 million cyber-heist from a foreign financial institution.\u201d
\nBoth the date and amount match that of the attack on Malta\u2019s Bank of Valletta in February 2019.
\nIn July, Abbas\u2019 then lawyer, Gal Pissetzky told Forbes that Abbas was not guilty of the charges and described him as \u201can entrepreneur\u201d who made his money legitimately through \u201creal estate\u201d and his work \u201cpromoting brands\u201d as an \u201cInstagram personality.\u201d
