Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has revealed that former Lagos State Governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, will be long remembered for his legacies and impacts.
\nDAILY POST reports that Jakande died on Thursday morning in Lagos State at the age of 91 and his death was disclosed by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide-Sanwo-Olu.
\nOyetola, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, on Thursday in Osogbo also commiserated with the entire Jakande\u2019s family and friends.
\nThe governor said that Jakande was a professional and a respected journalist, a progressive politician, a distinguished public servant and an outstanding leader, who demonstrated strong concerns and commitments to the welfare of the people he served as governor.
\nOyetola noted that when the late Jakande served as governor of Lagos between 1979 and 1983, he brought significant development to the State and left remarkable legacies that made him a reference point for politicians, not only in Lagos but across the country.
\nHe said: \u201cOn behalf of the Government and the good people of the State of Osun, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the government and the people of Lagos State over the death of the first civilian governor of the State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande.
\n\u201cI also commiserate with the family of Baba Jakande, his friends, associates and all those who mourn the demise of the elder statesman and an administrator of note.
\n\u201cWhen he served as governor of Lagos State between 1979 and 1983, Baba Jakande brought significant development to the State and left remarkable legacies that made him a reference point for politicians, not only in Lagos but across the country.
\n\u201cWith his focus and people-centric leadership, Baba earned the trust and respect of the people of Lagos and Nigerians from diverse political, social and religious leanings.
\n\u201dHe will be long remembered for his legacies and impacts.
\n\u201cI pray that Almighty Allah will forgive his shortcomings, grant him a place in Aljanah Firdaus and grant his family and loved ones the strength to bear his demise.\u201d
