{"id":312484,"date":"2021-02-06T17:43:35","date_gmt":"2021-02-06T16:43:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=312484"},"modified":"2021-02-06T17:44:58","modified_gmt":"2021-02-06T16:44:58","slug":"gov-abiodun-threatens-to-arrest-troublemakers-days-after-sunday-igbohos-visit-to-ogun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=312484","title":{"rendered":"Gov Abiodun threatens to arrest troublemakers days after Sunday Igboho\u2019s visit to Ogun"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Days after Activist Sunday Adeyemo visited Ogun State to chase away Fulani herdsmen, the Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, reacted.<br \/>\nThere had been cases of killings, kidnapping and raping by those alleged to be Fulani herdsmen in Yewa axis of Ogun State, causing some traditional rulers in the area to cry to Gov Abiodun.<br \/>\nThe traditional rulers had reported how their subjects were brutalised by soldiers who they alleged also escorted herdsmen into their communities to graze on their farmlands.<br \/>\nDAILY POST recalls that the traditional rulers and their subjects accused both the Federal and State Governments of turning deaf ears to their lamentations.<br \/>\nThe security situation in Ogun State had prompted Sunday Igboho, to visit affected communities in Ogun West.<br \/>\nAt his visit, Sunday Igboho was well received by residents and traditional rulers, who appealed to him to help them fight those they term as killer Fulani herdsmen, even as the state government said he was not invited.<br \/>\nMembers of the community said they have lost count of the number of people killed, raped or kidnapped by the suspected killer-herdsmen, after destroying their farms.<br \/>\nDuring Igboho\u2019s visit to Oja-Odan and Igua, Fulani settlements and a cattle market were set ablaze by hoodlums, who it was gathered took advantage of the situation and attacked the Sarkin Fulani and his subjects.<br \/>\nIn his reaction on Saturday, Gov Abiodun said he had deployed a joint security task force to Imeko, Aiyetoro, Ipokia and other border communities along the Nigeria\/Benin Republic border.<br \/>\nThis, according to him, was to forestall a repeat of the recent, fatal farmer-herder clashes in the Yewa axis.<br \/>\nAbiodun hinted that the decision followed a briefing by security chiefs, who he said have been charged to put the situation under control and return normalcy to the areas.<br \/>\nWhile stressing that his government will not tolerate anything that threatens the security of lives and property, he disclosed that security agencies will be given the needed support to deal with the situation and bring the full weight of the law on anyone who chooses to foment trouble in Ogun.<br \/>\n\u201cWe have deployed a joint security task force to Imeko, Aiyetoro, Ipokia and other border communities along the Nigeria\/Benin Republic Border, to forestall a repeat of the recent, fatal farmer-herder clashes in the Yewa axis.<br \/>\n\u201cThis decision follows a briefing by security chiefs who have now been charged to put the situation under control and return normalcy to the areas.<br \/>\n\u201cAs we will not tolerate anything that threatens the security of lives and property, the Ogun State Government will give security agencies the needed support to deal with the situation and bring the full weight of the law on anyone who chooses to foment trouble in the area and indeed Ogun State,\u201d the governor said in a statement.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Days after Activist Sunday Adeyemo visited Ogun State to chase away Fulani herdsmen, the Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, reacted.
