{"id":274673,"date":"2020-10-27T08:41:08","date_gmt":"2020-10-27T07:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=274673"},"modified":"2020-10-27T08:49:31","modified_gmt":"2020-10-27T07:49:31","slug":"laliga-barcelona-release-statement-against-var","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=274673","title":{"rendered":"LaLiga: Barcelona release statement against VAR"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Barcelona have released a statement claiming that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is being used against them.<\/p>\n<p>The LaLiga giants claimed it has \u201chad a serious negative impact on FC Barcelona and has benefited its most direct opponents\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after Real Madrid were awarded a controversial penalty in Barca\u2019s 3-1 defeat in Saturday\u2019s El Clasico.<\/p>\n<p>Referee Juan Martinez Munuera gave Madrid a spot kick when Sergio Ramos went down in the area.<\/p>\n<p>After consulting the VAR screen, Munuera decided that Clement Lenglet holding on to Ramos\u2019 shirt was enough to warrant the penalty.<\/p>\n<p>Ramos duly converted and put his side 2-1 up, before Luka Modric\u2019s late strike wrapped up the win.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the statement read: \u201cThe Board considers that, in the cases of identical or very similar game situations, VAR has not upheld the essential criteria of ethics and fairness, which has had a serious negative impact on FC Barcelona and has benefitted its most direct opponents.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Barcelona have released a statement claiming that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is being used against them.
