{"id":267155,"date":"2020-10-07T22:47:19","date_gmt":"2020-10-07T21:47:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=267155"},"modified":"2020-10-07T22:48:01","modified_gmt":"2020-10-07T21:48:01","slug":"okonjo-iweala-set-to-make-history-as-wto-selects-final-two-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=267155","title":{"rendered":"Okonjo-Iweala set to make history as WTO selects final two candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">World Trade Organization (WTO) members have selected two final candidates for the final round, in the race to lead the organization, Bloomberg reports.<\/p>\n<p>They are: Nigeria\u2019s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and South Korea\u2019s Yoo Myung-hee.<\/p>\n<p>With the two women advancing to the final round of the selection process, the WTO will likely have the first female director-general in its 25-year history.<\/p>\n<p>Okonjo-Iweala served two stints as Nigeria\u2019s Finance Minister and is a former managing director of the World Bank.<\/p>\n<p>Yoo is South Korea\u2019s current Trade Minister. During her 25-year career in government, she has helped expand the country\u2019s trade network through bilateral accords with the USA, China and the UK.<\/p>\n<p>WTO General Council Chairman, David Walker, will formally announce the results to the institution\u2019s delegates on Thursday morning in Geneva.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>World Trade Organization (WTO) members have selected two final candidates for the final round, in the race to lead the organization, Bloomberg reports.
