{"id":259402,"date":"2020-09-17T15:04:56","date_gmt":"2020-09-17T14:04:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=259402"},"modified":"2020-09-17T15:05:16","modified_gmt":"2020-09-17T14:05:16","slug":"barcelona-captain-lionel-messi-wins-in-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=259402","title":{"rendered":"Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi wins in court"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, has won a legal battle over trademark rights relating to his own logo.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the European Union\u2019s Court of Justice in Luxembourg, dismissed an appeal from the player on a Spanish cycling clothing brand.<\/p>\n<p>The court threw out the appeal from the EU\u2019s intellectual property office EUIPO and a Spanish company, Massi.<\/p>\n<p>Messi initially filed an application to trademark his surname as a sportswear, footwear and equipment brand, with the property office in 2011<\/p>\n<p>This was in spite of opposition from the owners of Massi, who insisted the footballer\u2019s brand would cause confusion to customers.<\/p>\n<p>The EU property office upheld their complaint in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>While an appeal from Messi the following year was dismissed, an appeal to the EU\u2019s General Court in 2018 led to the original ruling being annulled.<\/p>\n<p>(DailyPost)<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, has won a legal battle over trademark rights relating to his own logo.
