{"id":251648,"date":"2020-08-27T08:15:33","date_gmt":"2020-08-27T07:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=251648"},"modified":"2020-08-27T08:16:44","modified_gmt":"2020-08-27T07:16:44","slug":"barcelona-bid-to-make-lionel-messi-change-mind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=251648","title":{"rendered":"Barcelona bid to make Lionel Messi change mind"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Barcelona are working to convince captain, Lionel Messi, to stay at the club after the 33-year-old\u2019s shock request to leave the Camp Nou.<\/p>\n<p>Messi surprised Barcelona on Tuesday night, when he asked for his contract, which has a year still to run, to be terminated under an end-of-season release clause.<\/p>\n<p>His intention came after Ronald Koeman\u2019s appointment as Quique Setien\u2019s successor last week, following a disappointing season which ended with an 8-2 Champions League quarter-final defeat to Bayern Munich.<\/p>\n<p>However, speaking as the club unveiled \u20ac31m new signing, Francisco Trincao, on Wednesday, sporting director Ramon Planes told reporters that Barcelona are putting every effort into ensuring that the relationship between the club and Messi will continue.<\/p>\n<p>Planes said: \u201cThis is evidently the important news.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we have said many times, as Koeman and the president have said and my position as technical secretary, we count on Messi for the future, just as we count on Trincao as a talent of the future, and we have heard that he\u2019ll play alongside the greatest player in the history, the greatest player in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese things happen, and we hope we\u2019ll come back stronger from the defeat at the end of last season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat has happened has happened, and our idea is to build a team around the most important player in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe aren\u2019t contemplating any departure because what we want is for Messi to stay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe only have enormous respect for Leo Messi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBarca and Leo are like a marriage, where both have given so much to each other and have brought so much joy to the fans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the future is positive. I\u2019m an optimist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re putting every effort into ensuring that the relationship between Barca and Messi will continue.
