{"id":221515,"date":"2020-05-29T11:04:40","date_gmt":"2020-05-29T10:04:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=221515"},"modified":"2020-05-29T11:08:57","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T10:08:57","slug":"fg-has-no-power-to-seize-states-funds-ekweremadu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=221515","title":{"rendered":"FG has no power to seize States\u2019 funds &#8211; Ekweremadu"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, on Friday, said the Federal Government has no power to seize funds belonging to State Governments over the implementation of the recent order signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.<br \/>\nThe President had signed an Executive Order which provides for full autonomy of the States Houses of Assembly and the Judiciary.<br \/>\nAs a further push towards its implementation, Nigeria\u2019s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had warned that States that refuse to comply with the Executive Order may have their funds withheld.<br \/>\nBut Speaking in Enugu, Ekweremadu said \u201cthe FG has no such powers, the Supreme Court has said so.\u201d<br \/>\nHe also declared that the contentious Infectious Disease Bill currently before the National Assembly will fail.<br \/>\nHe gave assurances to concerned Nigerians in an on-going Dream FM, Enugu programme \u2018Political Voices\u2019, being monitored by DAILY POST.<br \/>\nEkweremadu, representing Enugu West Senatorial Zone declared that \u201cthe bill is more dangerous than the infectious disease itself,\u201d adding that \u201cthe provisions of the bill are not in tandem with our constitution.\u201d<br \/>\nHe said the bill will certainly not be passed.\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, on Friday, said the Federal Government has no power to seize funds belonging to State Governments over the implementation of the recent order signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
