{"id":211834,"date":"2020-03-31T14:16:13","date_gmt":"2020-03-31T13:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=211834"},"modified":"2020-04-21T06:51:35","modified_gmt":"2020-04-21T05:51:35","slug":"who-clears-air-on-approved-vaccine-for-coronavirus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=211834","title":{"rendered":"WHO clears air on \u2018approved vaccine&#8217; for Coronavirus"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">The World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday said there was no approved vaccine for COVID-19.<br \/>\nWHO Immunization Team Lead, Dr Fiona Braka, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that researches are still ongoing on the deadly viral disease.<br \/>\nShe, therefore, described as \u2018untrue claims of vaccines developed for the COVID-19.<br \/>\nRecall that China had last week approved early-stage human tests for two experimental Coronavirus vaccines.<br \/>\nThe vaccines are being developed by Sinovac Biotech and by the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products, an affiliate of state-owned China National Pharmaceutical Group.<br \/>\nBut, Braka said none had been approved for COVID-19, adding that public safety was the key consideration of WHO campaign for now.<br \/>\n\u201cCOVID-19 is a new disease, and as such, there are no ready vaccines available to be deployed for the control of the pandemic.<br \/>\n\u201cHowever, a lot of research and scientific works are ongoing to develop vaccines, but these usually take time to ensure that it is safe for use on the broader population and also effective for control of the pandemic.<br \/>\n\u201cPublic safety is a key consideration in this process,\u201d the WHO team lead said.<br \/>\n\u201cWHO is not aware of vaccine for COVID-19 in Nigeria.<br \/>\n\u201cThere is a large scientific study (clinical trial) involving many countries to review the effectiveness of some drugs for the treatment of COVID-19 going on at the moment.<br \/>\n\u201cThe result of this clinical trial will help understand the efficacy of these drugs and may inform the review of the case management guidelines,\u201d she added.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday said there was no approved vaccine for COVID-19.
