{"id":206396,"date":"2020-04-02T10:13:21","date_gmt":"2020-04-02T09:13:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=206396"},"modified":"2020-04-02T19:58:18","modified_gmt":"2020-04-02T18:58:18","slug":"covid-19-nuj-launches-special-pass-for-journalists-over-harassment-by-security-agencies-in-oyo-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=206396","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19: NUJ launches special pass for journalists over harassment by security agencies in Oyo [PHOTOS]"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">The Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Wednesday launched a new pass for journalists covering the Coronavirus also known as COVID-19 in the state.<\/p>\n<p>NUJ noted that it launched the pass in order to ease the movement of journalists in the state.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST reported that the state Governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde had earlier declared 7pm to 6am curfew in the state, as part of efforts to curtail the spread of Coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>It was, however, gathered that some overzealous security agents had been harassing and molesting some people among whom werw journalists who were listed as part of those performing special duties.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-776180 lazy\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201280%20720'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/storage\/2020\/04\/COVID-19-NUJ-launches-special-pass-for-journalists-over-harassment-by-security-agencies-in-Oyo-PHOTOS.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" data-=\"data-\"><\/p>\n<p>The NUJ had also raised the alarm over the reports of harassment of some citizens in the state, especially journalists.<\/p>\n<p>President Muhammadu Buhari had on Sunday listed journalists as those exempted from the total lockdown he declared in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states.<\/p>\n<p>However, NUJ on Wednesday, said it has launched a new pass, which would serve as an identity to its members in the state.<\/p>\n<p>NUJ Chairman and Secretary, Alhaji Ademola Babalola and Mr. Sola Oladapo in a statement made available to DAILY POST, called on security agencies in the state, to accord journalists carrying the card all the deserved courtesies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have received several complaints of harassment by security agencies from our members covering the COVID-19 pandemics in the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis necessitated the need to produce a special pass signed by the NUJ Chairman to ensure smooth discharge of their duties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are using this medium to call on security agencies in the state to accord journalists carrying this pass all the deserved courtesies\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The duo maintained that the effort was to put a stop to complaints of harassment by members in the course of discharging their duties.<\/p>\n<p>They called on the management of media organisations to adopt online editorial meetings forthwith as a measure to protect its members.<\/p>\n<p>They further restated its call on journalists to stop all physical interviews and adhere to the precautionary guidelines issued by health professionals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur members should endeavour to observe social distancing, regular hand washing with soap or frequent use of hand sanitizers.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Wednesday launched a new pass for journalists covering the Coronavirus also known as COVID-19 in the state.
