{"id":204802,"date":"2020-03-26T18:09:26","date_gmt":"2020-03-26T17:09:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=204802"},"modified":"2020-03-26T18:10:00","modified_gmt":"2020-03-26T17:10:00","slug":"covid-19-abias-ikpeazu-directs-payment-of-salaries-to-civil-servants-pensioners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=204802","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19: Abia&#8217;s Ikpeazu directs payment of salaries to civil servants, pensioners"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has directed the State Ministry of Finance led by Dr Aham Uko (Commissioner), to commence payment of civil servants and verified pensioners from Friday, 27\/03\/2020 and conclude latest Monday 30\/3\/2020.<br \/>\nThis was contained in a terse statement by the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu and forwarded to DAILY POST on Thursday morning.<br \/>\nAccording to the governor,\u201dThis compassionate directive is aimed at ensuring that workers and verified pensioners have money to stock up food in the event of a lockdown in the state\u201d.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, Governor Ikpeazu has directed the conclusion of pension verifications on Friday, 27th March, 2020.<br \/>\nHe mandated the Inter-ministerial Committee on Coronavirus to commence issuance of daily updates to citizens till further notice.<br \/>\nIn another development, with the increase cases of COVID-19 pandemic rocking the country, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Orji, has urged all Abians and visitors to the State to strictly follow the guidelines established by the State Government in the fight against the rampaging Coronavirus.<br \/>\nThe Speaker said this on Wednesday in a statement made available to newsmen in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.<br \/>\nHe emphasised that the Coronavirus scourge though a global reality which requires the cooperation of everyone to prevent, manage and control was not a death sentence.<br \/>\nHis words, \u201cThe Coronavirus is a new reality worldwide but it can be defeated as long as citizens comply with directives from government and follow all the guidelines issued with regard to it. At the House of Assembly, we have followed up with the procedures put in place by the State Government and are satisfied with them. It is now for all Abians to ensure they play by the rules.<br \/>\n\u201cNo one should panic but everyone should do what is needed to prevent the virus from afflicting our state.
