{"id":185189,"date":"2020-01-16T08:10:39","date_gmt":"2020-01-16T07:10:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=185189"},"modified":"2020-01-16T08:13:44","modified_gmt":"2020-01-16T07:13:44","slug":"iswap-dss-others-rescue-aid-workers-from-terrorists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=185189","title":{"rendered":"ISWAP: DSS, others rescue aid workers from terrorists"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Operatives from the Department State Security Services (DSS) and other agencies have rescued five aid workers from the captivity of notorious terrorists in North-Eastern Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The operation, which took place Wednesday evening, included military and intelligence services.<\/p>\n<p>The aid workers were abducted by the Islamic State West Africa Province, popularly known as ISWAP, on December 22, 2019 along Monguno-Maiduguri Road in Borno State.<\/p>\n<p>Those rescued are: Jennifer Samuel UKUMBONG (Alliance for International Medical Action, (ALIMA); Asabe Cletus MUSA, Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA); Adamu Auwal OZESHI; Arthur Ibojekwe CHIMA ( Solidarity International) and George Danbaba MICHEAL (International Organisation for Migration, IOM).<\/p>\n<p>DSS spokesman, Peter Afunaya, told PRNigeria that the aid workers were in good health and were being debriefed as appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>In his reaction after the abduction, UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres expressed solidarity with the federal government and Nigerians.<br \/>\nDAILY POST had reported that Boko Haram just before Christmas, at Burimari village between Monguno and Gajiram, mounted a road block where they attacked their victims.<\/p>\n<p>A similar attack occurred at the Babbangida-Gashua-Damaturu axis when suspected fighters of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) Sunday attempted to infiltrate Damaturu, Yobe.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued by his spokesman, Mr St\u00e9phane Dujarric, in New York, Guterres called for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Secretary-General is deeply concerned about reports that civilians have been executed, and others abducted, by an armed group in northern Borno State, northeastern Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Secretary-General recalls that attacks by a party to an armed conflict that target civilians, aid workers, and civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose responsible for these atrocities must be held accountable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInternational human rights law and international humanitarian law must be fully respected, and all civilians in Nigeria must be protected,\u201d the secretary-general said.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Operatives from the Department State Security Services (DSS) and other agencies have rescued five aid workers from the captivity of notorious terrorists in North-Eastern Nigeria.
