{"id":174495,"date":"2019-12-09T18:31:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-09T16:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=174495"},"modified":"2019-12-09T17:31:31","modified_gmt":"2019-12-09T16:31:31","slug":"meet-the-woman-about-to-become-the-worlds-youngest-prime-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=174495","title":{"rendered":"Meet the woman about to become the world&#8217;s youngest prime minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-component-name=\"sdc-article-body\">A 34-year-old woman is set to become Finland&#8217;s prime minister on Tuesday &#8211; making her the youngest world leader.<\/p>\n<p>Sanna Marin, who currently serves as the country&#8217;s transport and communications minister, was nominated for the top job on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>She will be Finland&#8217;s third-ever female prime minister when she is sworn in.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Marin, from the dominant Social Democrats, will head a centre-left coalition of five parties &#8211; all of which are led by women.<\/p>\n<p>Her appointment follows the resignation of Antti Rinne, who stepped down after a key coalition partner withdrew their support.<\/p>\n<p>Politicians are set to approve the appointment of Ms Marin and her government this week so she can represent Finland at the EU leaders&#8217; summit in Brussels, which begins on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Other new appointees in her administration include Katri Kulmuni, a 32-year-old who will become finance minister.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-article-widget sdc-article-image\">\n<figure class=\"sdc-article-image__figure\" itemprop=\"associatedMedia image\" itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\">\n<div class=\"sdc-article-image__wrapper\" data-aspect-ratio=\"16\/9\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sdc-article-image__item\" src=\"https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/19\/12\/768x432\/skynews-sanna-marin-finland_4861282.jpg?20191209100423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/19\/12\/384x216\/skynews-sanna-marin-finland_4861282.jpg?20191209100423 380w, https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/19\/12\/768x432\/skynews-sanna-marin-finland_4861282.jpg?20191209100423 760w, https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/19\/12\/1600x900\/skynews-sanna-marin-finland_4861282.jpg?20191209100423 1024w, https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/19\/12\/2048x1152\/skynews-sanna-marin-finland_4861282.jpg?20191209100423 2048w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 1024px) 1024px, 100vw\" alt=\"Sanna Marin pictured after she was elected to the post of prime minister\"><\/p>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"sdc-article-image__caption\" itemprop=\"caption description\"><span class=\"sdc-article-image__caption-text\">Sanna Marin pictured after she was nominated to be prime minister<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Finland, which has a population of 5.5 million, currently holds the European Union&#8217;s rotating presidency until the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>A number of strikes are currently taking place in the country &#8211; and resolving them will be one of Ms Marin&#8217;s first priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Marin joins a host of other young leaders on the world stage.<\/p>\n<p>New Zealand&#8217;s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is 39, and Ukraine&#8217;s leader Oleksiy Honcharuk is 35.<\/p>\n<p>Sebastian Kurz became Austria&#8217;s chancellor at the age of 31 back in 2017, and left the role in May.<\/p>\n<p>Like Ms Ardern, Ms Marin is also a new mother, and she gave birth to her daughter Emma last year.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Marin, who was raised by a single mother, recently told Finnish media how she felt discriminated against when her mother was in a relationship with another woman.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 34-year-old woman is set to become Finland&#8217;s prime minister on Tuesday &#8211; making her the youngest world leader.
