{"id":172259,"date":"2019-12-02T08:54:06","date_gmt":"2019-12-02T06:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=172259"},"modified":"2019-12-02T07:54:57","modified_gmt":"2019-12-02T06:54:57","slug":"zambia-to-warn-us-over-remarks-about-jailing-of-gay-couple-world-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=172259","title":{"rendered":"Zambia to warn US over remarks about jailing of gay couple | World News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/19\/12\/70x70\/skynews-zambian-president-edgar-lungu_4854092.jpg?20191202032003\"><\/p>\n<div data-component-name=\"sdc-article-body\">Zambia&#8217;s president has told Sky News his government will officially complain to the United States over remarks its ambassador made after a homosexual couple were jailed for 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>Japhet Chataba and Steven Samba were sentenced in the capital, Lusaka, by a high court judge on Wednesday for &#8220;crimes against the order of nature&#8221; &#8211; Zambia&#8217;s legal term for gay sex.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the decision, the US ambassador to Zambia, Daniel Foote, said in a statement: &#8220;I was personally horrified to read about the sentencing of two men, who had a consensual relationship, which hurt absolutely no one.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Is it &quot;un-African&quot; to be gay?\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AZhtxQY6cJo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In an exclusive interview with Sky&#8217;s special correspondent Alex Crawford, Zambian President Edgar Lungu warned of a breakdown in relations between Zambia and the US unless President Donald Trump took action.<\/p>\n<p>He also insisted that nothing would change his mind on homosexuality.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;We are saying no to homosexuality.
