{"id":170961,"date":"2019-11-27T15:55:53","date_gmt":"2019-11-27T13:55:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=170961"},"modified":"2019-11-27T14:56:07","modified_gmt":"2019-11-27T13:56:07","slug":"gestational-diabetes-threat-to-maternal-child-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=170961","title":{"rendered":"Gestational Diabetes, threat to maternal, child health"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Gestational Diabetes Mellitus has been described as a severe threat government\u2019s efforts in reducing maternal mortality rates.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-737854 size-large lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/storage\/2019\/11\/Gestational-Diabetes-threat-to-maternal-child-health.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"555\" data-=\"data-\"><\/p>\n<p>The Diabetes Association of Nigeria (DAN) estimates that about 204 million women between 20-79 years are living with diabetes worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary Katsina State chapter of the Association Hussaini Usman made the disclosure yesterday during a free screening on diabetes organized by the Association to pregnant mothers in the state held at General Hospital Ingawa.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, gestational diabetes mellitus is a severe neglected threat to maternal and child health, pointing out that many women with it experience pregnancy-related complications including high blood pressure, large birth weight babies, and obstructed labour.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-737855 size-large lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/storage\/2019\/11\/1574848322_592_Gestational-Diabetes-threat-to-maternal-child-health.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"555\" data-=\"data-\"><\/p>\n<p>\u201d There were an estimated 204 million women, 20-79 years living with diabetes worldwide. This number is projected to increase to 308 million by 2045 if care is not taken\u201d. He said.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking, the vice-chairman North West of the association Hajiya Aisha Indo Lawan explained that 150 pregnant mothers were screened on diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity during the exercise saying the activity was part of the celebration of the 2019 diabetes day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d Some pregnant mothers were found to have diabetes and or high blood pressure unknowingly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d Apart from free screening, the association distributed free drugs and delivery kits to mothers.
