{"id":166847,"date":"2019-11-11T11:35:25","date_gmt":"2019-11-11T10:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=166847"},"modified":"2019-11-11T11:35:42","modified_gmt":"2019-11-11T10:35:42","slug":"epl-what-mourinho-souness-said-about-var-referees-decision-denying-man-city-penalty-in-3-1-loss-to-liverpool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=166847","title":{"rendered":"EPL: What Mourinho, Souness said about VAR, referee&#8217;s decision denying Man City penalty in 3-1 loss to Liverpool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/EPL-What-Mourinho-Souness-said-about-VAR-referees-decision-denying-Man-City-penalty-in-3-1-loss-to-Liverpool.jpeg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Former Manchester United and Newcastle United managers, Jose Mourinho and Graeme Souness have blasted the Premier League for inconsistency.<\/p>\n<p>They were reacting to VAR and referee\u2019s decision not to penalise Trent Alexander-Arnold for handball in the build-up to Liverpool\u2019s opening goal against Manchester City on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Fabinho fired Liverpool in front after six minutes, however, there was initial controversy following City\u2019s appeal for handball moments earlier.<\/p>\n<p>With City on the attack, the ball appeared to have struck the hand of Alexander-Arnold in the Liverpool area which led to huge protests from City, particularly Sergio Aguero.<\/p>\n<p>However, the referee waved on and Liverpool broke down the other end leading to Fabinho unleashing a cracking strike from the edge of the area to put the Reds ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Souness and Mourinho added that whilst the handball was debatable, the inconsistencies of the decision would frustrate them the most.<\/p>\n<p>Mourinho told Sky Sports, \u201cThat\u2019s the problem, the inconsistency. Next week, a similar situation, it will be a penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Souness added, \u201cWe\u2019re all in the same boat here.
