{"id":161905,"date":"2019-10-21T13:41:55","date_gmt":"2019-10-21T12:41:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=161905"},"modified":"2019-10-21T13:42:18","modified_gmt":"2019-10-21T12:42:18","slug":"police-arrest-six-cultists-suspected-robber-in-lagos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=161905","title":{"rendered":"Police arrest six cultists, suspected robber in Lagos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Bauchi-Police-disperse-crowd-with-teargas-as-Governor-Bala-Abdullahis-supporters-confront-each-other.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Operatives of \u201cOperation Crush\u2019\u2019 attached to Alapere Police Division in Lagos State, have arrested six suspected cultists.<br \/>\nThe arrested cultists, believed to belong to the \u201cEiye and Aiye\u2019\u2019 confraternities, were arrested for their alleged involvement in series of violent attacks in the area.<\/p>\n<p>DSP Bala Elkana, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Lagos State Police Command, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.<br \/>\nElkana said some gangsters suspected to be members of Eiye and Aiye confraternities, had earlier engaged themselves in a battle of supremacy with dangerous weapons at Demurin area, Alapere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe team, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Alapere arrested two key leaders of the gangs namely, Olawale Toheeb, 22, and Joseph Obinna, 25,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The DSP said that investigation was extended to the gangs\u2019 hideout at Mack Brown Hotel, Church Street, Alapere where four additional suspects were also apprehended\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>According to Elkana, the suspects were Obasi Ekene, 21, Promise Onoja, 18, Ogoekeweri Omokosi, 24 and Saviour Edet, 23.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspects confessed to belonging to Eiye and Aiye confraternities respectively and are responsible for series of violent attacks recorded in Alapere and its environ.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA large quantity of weed suspected to be Indian Hemp, short axes and cutlasses were recovered from their hideouts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvestigation has been concluded and the suspects will be charged to court,\u201d Elkana said.<\/p>\n<p>Also, a team of policemen from the Langbasa Police Station arrested a suspected armed robber, Ayobami Adegbite, 23, allegedly responsible for attacking passersby at Kekere bus stop, Adoh Ajah and UTC area of Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Elkana said Adegbite, the gang leader alongside his members, had used dangerous guns and cutlasses to dispossess unsuspecting victims of their valuables.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier, Langbasa Police Station received a distress call that some miscreants were attacking passersby at Kekere Bus stop with dangerous weapons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn sighting the police, the hoodlums opened fire but were over powered by our team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdegbite, who led the gang was arrested with one short gun, one digital camera and N16,000 they took from a victim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspect confessed to the crime and has given some useful information concerning the operations of his gang,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>The PPRO, however, explained that the Operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Ikeja had taken over the investigation and were on the trail of the fleeing members of the gang.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Operatives of \u201cOperation Crush\u2019\u2019 attached to Alapere Police Division in Lagos State, have arrested six suspected cultists.
