{"id":160646,"date":"2019-10-16T09:27:02","date_gmt":"2019-10-16T08:27:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=160646"},"modified":"2019-10-16T09:27:22","modified_gmt":"2019-10-16T08:27:22","slug":"pope-francis-makes-new-appointment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=160646","title":{"rendered":"Pope Francis makes new appointment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Pope-Francis-makes-new-appointment.jpeg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Pope Francis on Tuesday named a new head of the Vatican security services, a day after the previous holder of the job resigned because of a media leak.<\/p>\n<p>Gianluca Gauzzi Broccoletti, 45, was appointed Commander of the Vatican Gendarmerie and director of the Vatican\u2019s security and civil protection services, a statement said.<\/p>\n<p>He replaces Domenico Giani, who took the blame for the leaking of a confidential document that revealed the identities of five people involved in a Vatican criminal investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Italian media obtained the document, NAN reports.<\/p>\n<p>Giani was the de facto chief bodyguard to the pope, and had been in the post for 20 years, also serving under John Paul II and Benedict XVI.<\/p>\n<p>The five people ousted by the leaked document are under investigation for suspected financial transactions conducted on behalf of the Vatican\u2019s central administration, the Curia.<\/p>\n<p>Broccoletti was previously Giani\u2019s deputy.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pope Francis on Tuesday named a new head of the Vatican security services, a day after the previous holder of the job resigned because of a media leak.
