{"id":157800,"date":"2019-10-05T12:59:19","date_gmt":"2019-10-05T11:59:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=157800"},"modified":"2019-10-05T12:59:41","modified_gmt":"2019-10-05T11:59:41","slug":"buharis-aide-speaks-on-okorochas-call-for-scrapping-of-reps-reduction-of-lawmakers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=157800","title":{"rendered":"Buhari\u2019s aide speaks on Okorocha&#8217;s call for scrapping of Reps, reduction of lawmakers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Buhari\u2019s-aide-speaks-on-Okorochas-call-for-scrapping-of-Reps-reduction-of-lawmakers-VIDEO.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s aide on Social Media matters, Lauretta Onochie, has reacted to Senator Rochas Okorocha\u2019s call for the reduction of lawmakers in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST recalls that Okorocha on Thursday canvassed for the reduction of parliamentarians representing each state of the federation, saying the nation cannot afford their expenditure anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Okorocha, a former Governor representing Imo West Senatorial District, stated this while contributing to a Committee report on MTEF at the Senate Thursday\u2019s plenary.<\/p>\n<p>He faulted the bicameral legislature, saying that there was nothing too sacrosanct that Senators and House of Representatives members were doing that only senators could not do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. President of the Senate, distinguished colleagues, let\u2019s tell ourselves the truth. Look at the number of House of Representatives members and Senators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo me, what is too important that a House member is doing that a Senator from the same state is not doing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is time for us to sacrifice and I want to say that a Senator is enough to represent a State in order to cut cost. We must do sacrifice for the nation. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reacting, Onochie took to her Twitter page, commending Okorocha for his suggestion at the senate.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, Okorocha spoke the mind of Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>Onochie wrote: \u201cI never thought that we would hear this on the floor of our National Assembly. In Nigeria. Wow!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI must applaud Sen. Okorocha for his bravery. I hope he spoke the mind of the majority of our Assembly men and women because he spoke the mind of most Nigerians.
