{"id":155113,"date":"2019-09-25T13:24:42","date_gmt":"2019-09-25T12:24:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=155113"},"modified":"2019-09-25T13:28:57","modified_gmt":"2019-09-25T12:28:57","slug":"again-president-buhari-tells-world-he-would-take-100-million-nigerians-out-of-poverty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=155113","title":{"rendered":"Again, President Buhari Tells World He Would Take 100 Million Nigerians Out Of Poverty"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span class=\"ds-1col file file-image file-image-jpeg view-mode-embedded centered clearfix block-story-object block-story-object-resource block-story-object-resource-image\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"block-story-object-asset\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-embedded\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Again-President-Buhari-Tells-World-He-Would-Take-100-Million-Nigerians-Out-Of-Poverty.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"container container-pod container-pod-short\"><span class=\"adunit-parent hide block-module block-module-ad block-module-ad-300x250\"><span class=\"block-module-image-wrapper\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>President Muhammadu Buhari has again told the world that in 10 years<br \/>\nhe would have taken 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.<\/p>\n<p>The president stated this in a keynote address at the Nigeria<br \/>\nhigh-level side event on \u2018SDG Integration \u2013 Bridging the Policy<br \/>\nPlanning \u2013 Budgeting Gap for the Achievement of the Sustainable<br \/>\nDevelopment Goals.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>In a statement by one of Buhari&#8217;s spokesman, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on<br \/>\nTuesday, Buhari reiterated Nigeria\u2019s developmental priorities.<\/p>\n<p>The side event was held on the margins of the 74th Session of the UN<br \/>\nGeneral Assembly (UNGA74) on Tuesday in New York.<\/p>\n<p>The president said: \u201cIt is for this reason that in May this year, we<br \/>\ncommitted ourselves to lift approximately 100 million Nigerians out of<br \/>\npoverty within a 10-year period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a national development priority and in line with the<br \/>\naspirations of the SDGs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have since established an ambitious National Social Investment<br \/>\nProgramme (NSIP) targeting the poor and vulnerable members of the<br \/>\nNigerian population.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the president, through NSIP the administration is<br \/>\ntackling and addressing the root causes of poverty in all its<br \/>\nmanifestations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor example, the Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSF) component<br \/>\nis feeding almost 10 million school pupils daily and empowering over<br \/>\n90, 000 local catering staff across the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Buhari also spoke on the need to overcome ad hoc planning for the SDGs.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that it was the government\u2019s genuine desire for<br \/>\nscientific planning and implementation of the SDGs that made Nigeria<br \/>\ncommence the process of domestication and customization of the<br \/>\nIntegrated Sustainable Development Goals Model in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Nigeria iSDG Model, the report of which we will officially launch<br \/>\ntoday, will serve as a framework for robust, fact-based policy<br \/>\nanalysis, planning, and implementation at all levels of government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is expected to be used as a planning tool to complement existing<br \/>\nones currently in use at the national, sectoral and sub-national<br \/>\nlevels,\u201d the president said.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Muhammadu Buhari has again told the world that in 10 years he would have taken 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
