{"id":150452,"date":"2019-09-08T12:13:30","date_gmt":"2019-09-08T11:13:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=150452"},"modified":"2019-09-08T13:45:59","modified_gmt":"2019-09-08T12:45:59","slug":"nigeria-yellow-fever-kills-three-others-hospitalized-23-cases-under-surveillance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=150452","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria: Yellow Fever Kills Three, Others Hospitalized, 23 Cases Under Surveillance"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span class=\"ds-1col file file-image file-image-jpeg view-mode-embedded centered clearfix block-story-object block-story-object-resource block-story-object-resource-image\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"block-story-object-asset\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-embedded\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Nigeria-Yellow-Fever-Kills-Three-Others-Hospitalized-23-Cases-Under-Surveillance.jpeg\" alt=\"\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"container container-pod container-pod-short\"><span class=\"adunit-parent hide block-module block-module-ad block-module-ad-300x250\"><span class=\"block-module-image-wrapper\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>At least three persons have died following an outbreak of yellow fever<br \/>\nin Bauchi State.<\/p>\n<p>Rilwanu Mohammed, the Executive Chairman of the State Primary<br \/>\nHealthcare Development Agency, confirmed this during an interview with<br \/>\nChannelsTV on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that there were 23 other suspected cases while a few persons<br \/>\nwere receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University<br \/>\nTeaching Hospital, Bauchi.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed said, \u201cIn Bauchi State, we have been trying to follow up with<br \/>\nthe case of yellow fever which started two weeks ago and we have only<br \/>\nthree confirmed deaths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then, we have 23 cases of yellow fever and even today (Saturday),<br \/>\nseven samples were taken to the laboratory in Abuja.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The executive chairman, who spoke during a hospital visit to the<br \/>\naffected patients, explained that most of them were seen unconscious.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, one of the patients is a ranger at the Yankari Games<br \/>\nReserve, as the disease outbreak cuts across three local government<br \/>\nareas \u2013 Bauchi, Tafawa Balewa, and Alkaleri.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed said all confirmed cases of the disease were from Alkaleri,<br \/>\nwhere the Yankari Games Reserve is located.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, stated that the state government had begun to put<br \/>\nmeasures in place to contain the spread of the disease but lacked<br \/>\nenough vaccines for the people.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the steps taken so far, according to him, include the<br \/>\ndistribution of mosquito nets, environmental fumigation, and training<br \/>\nof staff on control measures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are trying to see what we can do. We\u2019ve made arrangements on how<br \/>\nto contain the virus and one of the arrangements is that we started<br \/>\nreactive vaccination over three or four days ago around the<br \/>\ncommunities,\u201d said the executive chairman.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At least three persons have died following an outbreak of yellow fever in Bauchi State.
