{"id":149855,"date":"2019-09-06T15:01:32","date_gmt":"2019-09-06T14:01:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=149855"},"modified":"2019-09-06T15:01:33","modified_gmt":"2019-09-06T14:01:33","slug":"zimbabwe-president-mnangagwa-reacts-to-robert-mugabes-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=149855","title":{"rendered":"Zimbabwe President, Mnangagwa reacts to Robert Mugabe&#8217;s death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Zimbabwe-President-Mnangagwa-reacts-to-Robert-Mugabes-death.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa has confirmed the death of former President, Robert Mugabe.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST reports that Mugabe died, aged 95 on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of his death has, however, not been disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>President Emmerson in a statement on his verified Twitter page expressed sadness over the death of Mugabe.<\/p>\n<p>He described Mugabe as an \u201cicon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement read \u201cIt is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe\u2019s founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCde Mugabe was an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recall that Mugabe, the longest serving president of Zimbabwe, was forced to resign in 2017 following protracted intra party crisis.<\/p>\n<p>He was succeeded by his estranged deputy, Emmerson Mnangagwa.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa has confirmed the death of former President, Robert Mugabe.
