{"id":143086,"date":"2019-08-12T17:10:21","date_gmt":"2019-08-12T16:10:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=143086"},"modified":"2019-08-12T17:11:00","modified_gmt":"2019-08-12T16:11:00","slug":"activists-journalists-to-protest-detention-of-sowore-on-wednesday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=143086","title":{"rendered":"Activists, journalists to protest detention of Sowore on Wednesday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"ds-1col file file-image file-image-jpeg view-mode-embedded centered clearfix block-story-object block-story-object-resource block-story-object-resource-image\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"block-story-object-asset\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-embedded\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Nigeria-Cannot-Have-Free-And-Fair-Elections-Unless-A-Revolution-Takes-Place-Says-Sowore.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A group of activists and journalists will on Wednesday embark upon a nationwide march to protest the continued detention of the co-convener of #RevolutionNow movement, Mr Omoyele Sowore.<\/p>\n<p>Sowore has been held by the Department of State Services since Saturday, August 3, when he was arrested in a Lagos hotel.<\/p>\n<p>Last Thursday, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted an ex-parte order to the DSS to hold him for a further 45 days.<\/p>\n<p>Legal luminary, Femi Falana, however filed an appeal on behalf of Sowore on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>According to the co-convener of the movement, Deji Adeyanju, the group will march on Wednesday to expose the antics of the President Muhammadu Buhari government to silence perceived dissenters. <\/p>\n<p>Adeyanju said that Sowore&#8217;s arrest should be a source of worry to all lovers of democracy in Nigeria. <\/p>\n<p>He appealed to Nigerians to come out in large numbers across the country and join in the protest aimed at pressuring the government to release Sowore.\n <\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A group of activists and journalists will on Wednesday embark upon a nationwide march to protest the continued detention of the co-convener of #RevolutionNow movement, Mr Omoyele Sowore.
