{"id":140100,"date":"2019-08-01T14:02:16","date_gmt":"2019-08-01T13:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=140100"},"modified":"2019-08-01T14:02:19","modified_gmt":"2019-08-01T13:02:19","slug":"the-lion-king-makes-1-billion-under-3-weeks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=140100","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The Lion King\u2019 Makes $1 Billion Under 3 Weeks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span class=\"ds-1col file file-image file-image-jpeg view-mode-embedded centered clearfix block-story-object block-story-object-resource block-story-object-resource-image\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"block-story-object-asset\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-embedded\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/The-Lion-King\u2019-Makes-1-Billion-Under-3-Weeks.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Disney\u2019s \u2018The Lion King\u2019 has crossed the billion-dollar mark after less than three weeks in theaters.<\/p>\n<p>News Agency of Nigeria reports that the live-action remake of the 1994 movie features Beyonce, Donald Glover and Chiwetel Ejiofor in lead roles.<\/p>\n<p>The movie joins \u2018Avengers: Endgame\u2019, \u2018Captain Marvel\u2019 and \u2018Aladdin\u2019 as the fourth Disney title to surpass $1 billion in global ticket sales in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>With its blockbuster slate, Disney has nearly 38 percent of the domestic market share, a cut that increases to more than 40 percent when Fox, which it just purchased, is added.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Lion King\u2019 earned $361 million at the domestic box office and $638 million overseas.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of North America, it had especially strong showings in China with $115 million, along with the United Kingdom with $48 million and Brazil with $44 million.<\/p>\n<p>The movie also stars Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa. James Earl Jones reprised his role as Mufasa from the original animated film.<\/p>\n<p>The milestone came on the heels of another Disney benchmark. Between July 26 and July 28, the company set a new all-time record for global ticket sales for a single studio.<\/p>\n<p>Disney hit $7.67 billion worldwide, smashing the mark it previously set in 2016 with $7.61 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Disney set a new record in 2016 with four films that grossed over $1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>In the coming months, Disney will release \u2018Frozen 2\u2032, a \u2018Maleficent\u2019 sequel and \u2018Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker\u2019.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Disney\u2019s \u2018The Lion King\u2019 has crossed the billion-dollar mark after less than three weeks in theaters.
