Armed men disguised as police officers have stolen 750kg of precious metals in a sophisticated heist at a Brazilian airport.<\/p>\n

The thieves bypassed the security system at Sao Paulo’s main international airport – known as GRU – by using two cars that looked like police patrol vehicles.<\/p>\n

The eight men were dressed as police officers, covered their faces and carried weapons, Globo TV reported.<\/p>\n

Gold destined for Zurich and New York was taken.<\/p>\n

The haul was estimated to have been worth $40m (\u00a332m).<\/p>\n

There were no injuries during the raid, but a police officer said an airport worker and eight members of his family – including four children – were held hostage for 12 hours.<\/p>\n

The two vehicles were found abandoned around 12 miles from the airport but police are still looking for the stolen gold.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
